Blocking Blackwater

Friday, December 14th, 2007 |

I recently stumbled upon a site called www.BlockBlackwater.com. A grassroots movement managed to organize a massive recall of local government in an effort to block Blackwater from building a training camp in their community. I think this is both brave and praiseworthy.

While I’m sure we have all grown to love the cute target and wolf print logo they use, I don’t think many of us like Blackwater. I know I would personally block Blackwater if it weren’t for the M60s they tend to carry with them. And that is why it is important to stop them.

Blackwater is not just some nice little corporate entity trying to make a few dollars by providing needed security professionals. They are swiftly generating what amounts to a private army. An army that is immune to most international law (so far) and has no domestic oversight. They are required to have all the proper licenses and paperwork, but no one in government is really watching that carefully. And we generally tolerate them because they are a very quiet group.

Blackwater does not loudly proclaim anything, except that they can get the job done for the right payment. This is very close to what the FARC has become, and we label them terrorists. Fortunately, unlike FARC, Blackwater has not been busy attacking and bombing our own cities. But once we begin legitimizing mercenary armies, that is a very short logical step.

Companies exist to make a profit, not defend our nation. When we allow groups to stockpile munitions, train soldiers, and become true combat forces with no tie to America past a paycheck you get into trouble. We are selling off pieces of our security to the corporate world. Would you trust Microsoft to always treat you right?

Block our nation from becoming a nation controlled by mercenaries. Keep your faith reserved for troops who make a commitment to their country and not their corporation.

Adam Gadahn - American Terrorist

Sunday, August 5th, 2007 |

In the line of people we love to hate Americans that join any terror organization are probably at the top of the list. And, as recently featured on FOX News there is a new American in the spotlight, Adam Gadahn.

This mans call to fame is his appearance and speech in a video that was released by Al Qaeda or a related source. You can view the full FOX article and video here. If you do watch the video, unless you can speak any Arabic you will want to skip to about the 01:01:19 mark where Gadahn begins speaking.

The big sound byte I captured from this was not the news media quoted “We shall continue to target you, at home and abroad, just as you target us, at home and abroad, and these spy dens and military command and control centers from which you plotted your aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq” but something I believe is much more basic to the essence of why terrorism has witnessed a surge in the past three decades.

The amount of respect we give to your international law is even less than the respect you give to divine Sha’ria…

How can we comply to law which contradicts divine law in whole and in part…

The very ability and necessity in the mind of the fundamentalist to follow divine law and literal truth before all else is what is problematic. Certainly we should heed threats given by possible terrorists, but shouldn’t we more closely examine the nature of why the problem exists?

it is not the Muslim fundamentalist that is the danger. It is fundamentalism in all its forms that is dangerous. When we do not allow our ideas to be questioned and are prepared to use violence without question against the non-believer we become a ready tool for terror. It is these same notions which in America drove the creation of the KKK, created the necessity to create hate crime laws, and are now fueling the fire to replace science with religion.

The absolute adherence to any idea is dangerous. Those ideas which are reinforced by divine origin, while inspirational, are the very force driving us to hate and kill without question. If you need a target, use Adam Gadahn, but remember it is not the people we need to remove, it is the ideas they use to allow their violence.
