Wordpress 2.5
Yeah, everyone has been talking about it. I held out until now to upgrade.
Previous updates generally caused some plug-in and theme problems for me. So I was a bit reluctant. So reluctant that I tested it out on a new blog I am re-purposing from an old idea. After poking around in the new interface and updates for about 15 minutes it was easy to come to the decision to update all of my sites to the 2.5 goodness.
One of the key features that sold me instantly is the built in ability to update plug-ins from the admin panel. No more tracking down the site, messing with ftp, or really any additional steps at all. It was never a problem to do this maintenance in 2.3, but now it doesn’t even feel like that.
As a general statement I would say the new update actually brings the admin panel into the web 2.0 world. It gets a little cartoon looking in some places, but overall it works faster, more smoothly, and just feel more intuitive than it ever did before… except for sidebar editing, that feel like a minor step backward, but I still need to play more in that area to make a full judgment.
How has your experience with WP 2.5 been?

I love the automated plugin update thingie too.
Overall my experience with Wordpress 2.5 has been okay, not much problems.
Some issues with a plugin and not able to upload images but I got those sorted out. :p

I found you via Entrecard — I haven’t heard a lot of “good” upgrade stories, so your’s was kind of unusual as far as folks actually talking about the upgrade (I’m sure there are many, many people who simply upgraded and have had no need to blog about it because it went smoothly).
Question: Are you using a template that you’ve customized, or is it a template that was used “as is”? Reason I ask is I’ve heavily customized my template, which makes me afraid to upgrade for fear of losing my changes. I’ve backed it up so that I can restore if I need to, but I’d rather not have the down time. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Demios - Glad to hear you have also had a mostly problem free upgrade!
Metroknow - I wouldn’t call my theme heavily modified, but I have done a good bit of tweaking. I don’t think they have changed much in the way themes are read or managed since 2.3, so I doubt you would have a problem with this update.
Mostly what I have seen is a huge overhaul of the admin sections and experience. If you are using anything that changes that layout or features there is a chance at problems.

I haven’t upgraded yet as I’m a little nervous to.
